- BBC is airing the new season of MasterChef amid accusations against the hosts.
- Contestant Sarah Shafi expressed protest against airing the show.
- Trade unions are urging BBC to reconsider the decision about the airing.
BBC has decided to air the new season of MasterChef, despite the scandal involving hosts Greg Wallace and John Torode. The decision was made after the revelation of a scandal, in which 45 out of 83 contestants accused Wallace of being recognized as a bully, including instances of inappropriate behavior.
Contestant Sarah Shafi, who participated in the show, was edited out of the episode after she expressed concern that the airing of the program could send an incorrect message to women. She urged not to air the show in general, indicating that it would be unethical given the contestants' accusations against the hosts.
BBC management stated that the decision to air the show was made after consultations with the participants, and the majority of them supported the idea. However, representatives of the Bectu trade union and legal experts expressed concern that the airing of the program could cause discomfort to those who filed complaints. They urged BBC to reconsider its decision.
Wallace was chosen for any misconduct that could have been caused by his behavior, and he emphasized that some did not want to cause harm. At the same time, Shafi expressed regret that she was cut from the program, noting that this only highlights the problem of silencing women in similar situations.
