Kyiv Declares a Day of Mourning After Russian Attack

On August 1, 2025, Kyiv officially declared a day of mourning after the Russian attack, which resulted in the deaths of 31 individuals, including five children, and nearly 150 were injured. The youngest victim was a two-year-old child. This is the highest number of child casualties during a single attack on Kyiv since the beginning of the airstrikes in July 2022.

The attack destroyed part of a nine-story residential building and also damaged over 100 other buildings, including schools, hospitals, and universities. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky noted that in July, Russia used over 5,100 guided bombs, 3,800 drones, and nearly 260 missiles. These figures indicate an increase in the intensity of attacks.

According to the Ukrainian aviation data, in July, Russia launched a record 6,443 drones and missiles in Ukraine, which is 13% more than in June. In July, 232 civilians were killed, and 1,343 were injured, which is the highest number in three years of war. Zelensky called on the world to impose new economic sanctions against Russia, emphasizing their effectiveness.

At the same time, Russian troops continue their attacks in eastern Ukraine, particularly in the city of Chasiv Yar, where a fierce battle for control over the territory is taking place. Zelensky announced the report of the capture of Chasiv Yar by Russian troops, asserting that Ukrainian forces are holding their positions.

In addition, Ukraine called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the situation and called for an immediate ceasefire.
