The Pentagon has ordered AMRAAM missiles for Ukraine and allies

The Pentagon has signed a contract worth up to $3.5 billion with Raytheon for the production of AMRAAM missiles and related equipment. Ukraine and 18 other countries will receive these missiles.

According to official information from the U.S. Department of Defense, the agreement includes deliveries for Ukraine, Denmark, Belgium, Japan, the Netherlands, Canada, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Poland, Sweden, Taiwan, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland, Israel, and Kuwait.

The contract includes the production of missiles, telemetry systems, spare parts, and engineering support. Production will take place in Tucson, Arizona, and is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2031 fiscal year.

AMRAAM missiles are the primary armament for F-15, F-16, F/A-18, and F-22 fighters. The cost of a single missile varies from $1.2 to $1.97 million depending on the modification.

Additionally, one of the modifications of these missiles is used in the NASAMS systems, which can engage targets at a distance of 20-25 km, while AMRAAM ER missiles (with extended range) can hit targets at a distance of up to 40 km.

Moreover, the system can attack aerial targets at distances exceeding 100 km, with a probability of hit of up to 85%.
