Testing of the Golden Dome anti-missile system is scheduled for the 2028 elections
- The testing of the Golden Dome system is scheduled for 2028.
- The system will be capable of intercepting rockets from space.
- The project is estimated to cost hundreds of billions of dollars.
The United States is preparing for the testing of the new Golden Dome anti-missile system, which is scheduled for the upcoming presidential elections in 2028. According to the spokesperson, who was briefed on the matter, the Pentagon highlighted the urgent need for military and developers to enhance the functionality of this multi-billion dollar system.
The Golden Dome has the potential to intercept rockets, even those launched from distant corners of the world. Tests, including ones like FTI-X, will involve the integration of multiple Golden Dome systems for simultaneous attacks on several targets.
The terms of the project's implementation are ambitious, especially since the U.S. has been researching the potential for intercepting rockets from space for decades. General of the Space Forces, Michael Guetlein, stated that the primary technical challenge will be the development of space interceptors. "We have to ensure that we can do this economically and in sufficient quantities for the coverage of threats," he said.
The project's value, according to estimates, could reach hundreds of billions of dollars, with previously allocated 25 billion dollars from the budget. Among the companies competing for participation in the project are SpaceX, Palantir, and Anduril, which aim to provide technical support and infrastructure.
The Golden Dome tests, which may only be the first phase of the program, will aim to demonstrate the ability to spend on future financing and the creation of a system that requires the introduction of new approaches to procurement.
