SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle Mariners reliever Trent Thornton was injured during his exit from the game after he sustained a blow to the leg in the ninth inning on Thursday night. This occurred during the team's victory over the Texas Rangers with a score of 6-0.

Thornton, who was using crutches in the postgame, did not receive an official diagnosis for the injury to his lower left leg, sustained from a ball that hit him on the ground, which was struck by Adolis García with two outs.

The player expressed concern that this could be a serious Achilles injury, and added that on Friday he would undergo MRI. "Of course, it's Achilles, but this is just speculation, so I will know more tomorrow," — he stated.

Thornton entered the game at the start of the eighth inning and struck out the first three batters. Later, after the full count on García, he suffered a blow in the back part of his leg.

"I threw the pitch, and as soon as I turned around, I thought I had broken the bat, but it hit me in the leg, and I fell," — explained Thornton. He noted that he tried to stay on the mound, but was unable to continue.

"It's not painful. It just feels unmanageable and numb," — he added. The team manager Dan Wakamatsu emphasized that Thornton pitched "fabulously" before sustaining the injury and is hoping for a better prognosis.
