- World Aquatics has relaxed age restrictions for swimmers
12-year-old Chinese swimmer Yui Tsidi won a bronze medal at the World Championships in swimming. She earned the medal by competing in the previous heats of the 4x200 meters freestyle relay, although she did not participate in the final, where the Chinese team placed third behind Australia and the USA.
Yui Tsidi also showed good results in individual competitions, finishing fourth in the heats for 200 meters butterfly and 200 meters individual medley. This week she has the potential to compete again in the 400 meters individual medley.
In connection with Yui's success, World Aquatics plans to review the rules regarding age restrictions for participants, which currently apply to 14 years old. Executive Director Brent Nowicki noted that it is necessary to discuss the appropriateness of these rules.
At the same time, in the final of the 800 meters freestyle, two stars of swimming will compete — Katie Ledecky and Summer McIntosh. Ledecky, who is a four-time Olympic champion, again demonstrated her mastery, taking first place in the previous heats. McIntosh, who is a young star, has already won three gold medals at this championship.
This championship promises to be one of the most significant in the history of swimming, as both sportswomen demonstrated impressive results in previous competitions. Ledecky and McIntosh have already competed earlier, with the Canadian winning gold in the 400 meters freestyle, which suggests a possible change in leadership in this type of sport.
