Itch.io Restores Free Content for Adults

The Itch.io platform has begun restoring free content for adults that was removed as a result of a search engine's findings. The site's founder, Leaf Korcoran, clarified that the restoration only applies to free materials. This decision is connected to the requirements of payment systems that cannot process payments for prohibited content.

Korcoran noted that the process of restoring paid content takes time, but it is being worked on. He emphasized that the company aims to maintain relationships with payment partners and is working on new agreements.

Recently, Itch.io stopped showing all materials marked as "NSFW" or "adult" through a filter from payment systems. This led to the removal of over 20,000 pages of games, books, and comics without prior warning.

In addition, Itch.io is introducing a new system for prior warning for content that includes materials for adults, which requires owners to update their information before re-indexing.

Currently, the company is in negotiations with other payment partners, as Stripe, one of the main service providers, no longer supports content for adults due to new restrictions.
