Discussion on Defense Cooperation Between Ukraine and Poland

On September 1, 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, visited Poland at the invitation of his Polish counterpart, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski. The meeting took place at the residence of the Polish minister in Chobielin.

Sybiha noted that during the negotiations, issues of strengthening bilateral cooperation were discussed, particularly in the field of defense. The main topics included enhancing defense capabilities, creating joint enterprises, and attracting investments in Ukraine's defense industry.

Sybiha emphasized the importance of utilizing existing mechanisms within the EU and NATO, including the SAFE instrument, which allows allocating up to five percent of defense expenditures for support to Ukraine. The ministers also discussed the necessity of synchronizing sanctions and increasing the transatlantic ties to the aggressor.

It is important that the meeting coincided with the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, which symbolizes the heroic struggle of the Polish nation for freedom. Sybiha also noted that in Ukraine, mourning continues for the victims of yet another Russian strike on Kyiv, which resulted in the deaths of 31 people, including five children.

He stressed that the Ukrainian-Polish partnership is the foundation of European strength, and unity is key to countering the current Russian terror. The minister expressed gratitude to Poland for its comprehensive support, including in the defense and humanitarian spheres, and noted that Ukraine received 46 packages of military assistance and is preparing the 47th package.
