  • Protests are taking place in response to the U.S. intervention in the Bolsonaru case.

The Brazilian Supreme Court continues to hear the case of former President Jair Bolsonaru, disregarding the sanctions imposed. Judge Alexandre de Moraes, who is leading the case, stated that the court will not submit to sanctions or any foreign pressure. He emphasized that the timeline of the judicial process will remain unchanged, and the case will be concluded by the end of the year.

At the beginning of the week, the U.S. Treasury Department announced sanctions against de Moraes, accusing him of infringing upon freedom of speech. Also, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an order to impose a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods, explaining that this is a political retaliation against Bolsonaru.

Where de Moraes did not mention the U.S. or Trump in his statements, he stressed the independence of the Brazilian judicial system. He stated that the court will protect national sovereignty and democratic principles.

Protests also took place in front of the U.S. consulate in São Paulo, where demonstrators rallied in support of Brazilian sovereignty and condemned foreign intervention.
