The owner of Morecambe may sell the club to avoid closure

  • Morecambe FC may close without a timely sale of the club.
  • The National League has suspended the club due to financial problems.
  • The Minister of Culture has instructed the owner to sell the club promptly.

The football club Morecambe could close as early as Monday if its owner, Jason Whittingham, does not agree to a sale. The club, which has been in existence for 105 years, is facing financial difficulties and does not have the funds to continue operations.

The National League announced the suspension of the club due to non-compliance with rules that leave it without the possibility of playing the first three matches of the season. In a statement from potential buyers, Panjab Warriors, it is indicated that the club has no money for continuing activities.

Deputies, including Lizzie Collins, expressed their concern regarding the situation, stating that the crisis could be unique, as Whittingham previously sold the club. The Minister of Culture, Lisa Nandy, also instructed him to act promptly.

Amid difficulties, the manager of the academy of the club, Neil Unwright, reported that the academy will continue its activities, but currently, all operations are suspended until the situation with the sale is resolved.
