James Milner Chooses Number 20 in Honor of Diogo Jota

  • James Milner has chosen number 20 in memory of Diogo Jota.
  • The forward Diogo Jota passed away at the age of 28.
  • Milner extended his contract with Brighton for another season.

James Milner will wear the number 20 shirt at Brighton this season, honoring the memory of his former teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically died in a car accident.

The Portuguese forward died at the age of 28 last month, along with his brother André Silva, just a few weeks after helping Liverpool secure the Premier League title.

The club "Liverpool" decided to retire the number 20, under which Jota played for five seasons, three of which he shared with Milner, before he moved to Brighton in the summer of 2023.

Formerly, Carlos Baleba decided to change his number to 17, Milner took the opportunity to honor Jota. "When I learned that Carlos was looking for a new number, and 20 was free, I decided to take it as a sign of respect and honor for Diogo Jota," Milner stated in a video published on the club's channel.

Milner, whose contract with Brighton was extended in June for another season, was also present at Jota's funeral in July. He emphasized that wearing Jota's number in the Premier League this year will be a great honor.
