- France has suspended the evacuation of Palestinians from Gaza due to a scandal.
- The scandal involved a student who was accused of anti-Semitism and was expelled from the university.
- The investigation is ongoing, and the evacuation from Gaza is suspended until it is concluded.
France has halted its program for accepting Palestinians who are fleeing from Gaza due to a scandal involving a 25-year-old student who was accused of making widespread anti-Semitic statements on social media. The Minister of Internal Affairs of France, Gérald Darmanin, reported that the suspension will last as long as the investigation into this incident continues.
The student, who was receiving a scholarship at Sciences Po university in Lille, was supposed to remain in the country after her accreditation was annulled. She arrived in France in July and planned to start her studies in the fall.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of France, Bruno Retailleau, stated that their comments do not reflect the value of the university and the country. He also noted that all Palestinians who are already residing in France through this program will be subject to a new verification.
France has already accepted more than 500 people from Gaza since the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas on July 7, 2023. The Minister of Internal Affairs emphasized that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire, but evacuations from the territory are now suspended until the investigation is completed.
