Court in Grenada convicts three men for the murder of Americans

  • Three men were convicted for the murder of an American couple.
  • Ron Mitchell received two life sentences.
  • The bodies of the victims were also not found.

In the eastern Caribbean Sea, on the island of Grenada, three men who were found guilty of murdering a couple from the USA last summer received severe sentences. The couple, Ralphe Hendry, 66, and Keti Brendel, 71, was killed after their catamaran was seized.

Ron Mitchell, suspected of being the ringleader, received two life sentences. Atriba Stanislaus, a farmer in his late 50s, received 60 years for manslaughter and 18 years for the robbery of Brendel. Trevon Robertson, a man in his early 20s, received 56 years for manslaughter.

Prosecutors reported that the men tied up and shot the victims, first before they could escape with their boat. The bodies of the couple were also not found.

The men fled from a police station in the southern part of the island in July 2024 and seized the catamaran "Simplicity." They were arrested on a neighboring island, St. Vincent.

The non-profit organization Salty Dawg Sailing Association described Hendry and Brendel as "experienced sailors" who spent the winter in the Caribbean.
