Nintendo Switch 2 Sets Sales Records in 2025

  • Nintendo Switch 2 sold over 6 million units in the first month.
  • The company plans to increase production due to high demand.
  • Nintendo's revenues increased by 132% following the successful launch of the console.

This is reported by Mezha, Engadget.

Nintendo started its financial year with record results following the launch of the Switch 2, the company reported in its report.

In the first month of sales, which began in June, the company achieved 5.82 million units. This is more than double the original Switch's first month result, which sold 2.7 million units in its first month in 2017.

The demand for Switch 2 exceeds the supply in many regions. Previous orders were distributed primarily through major retail chains in the USA before the launch, while limited stock remained on launch day. The company pledged to increase production to meet demand.

The success of the console led to a 132% increase in quarterly revenue. Revenues for the period from April to June amounted to 572.3 billion yen (~3.8 billion dollars), which is an increase compared to 246.6 billion yen (~1.6 billion dollars) in the same period last year. Nintendo maintains its sales forecast for the Switch 2 at 15 million units by the end of the fiscal year 2026, despite potential risks, including US tariffs.

The company announced a 20% tariff on products from Vietnam, where the Switch 2 is manufactured. This is more than 10% higher than the tariff Nintendo previously accounted for in its financial forecast. The company noted that it does not currently expect a significant impact on profits.

The launch of the Switch 2 made it the fastest-selling gaming console in history. Despite this, the original Switch continues to sell well, reaching 153.1 million units in total sales, nearly matching the Nintendo DS, which has a record of 154.02 million. For comparison, the Wii U sold only 13.7 million units over its entire lifecycle.

The Switch 2 not only brings Nintendo financial growth but also solidifies its status as a leading player in the console market.
