Neuralink Launches Clinical Trials in Ukraine

  • Neuralink has started clinical trials in Great Britain.
  • The implantation of a chip for controlling devices with thought is planned.
  • The first successful trials have already taken place in the USA.

The company Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk, has launched its first clinical trials in Europe, including in Great Britain.

Research is being conducted in collaboration with University College London Hospital and Newcastle Hospitals. In this, seven patients with severe paralysis due to spinal cord injuries or neurological conditions, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, will participate.

As part of the experiment, it is planned to implant chip N1 under the skull of the patients, which will allow them to control smartphones and tablets solely by thought, without touching the screen. The device uses 128 ultra-thin wires, each thinner than a human hair, to connect approximately 1000 electrodes to the brain.

Neuralink has already conducted successful trials in the USA, where five patients received chips. One of them, Alex, who was paralyzed due to an accident, can now play computer games using only his thoughts.

The company plans to expand its trials to other countries, including Canada and the UAE. Neuralink was founded in 2016 and has since raised nearly $1.3 billion in investments, with its valuation reaching over $9 billion.
