Cleveland Browns continue preparations for the new NFL season, including naming the starting quarterback. Kenny Pickett has returned to the field after recovering from a minor injury, but is still only completing individual drills. Trainer Kevin Stefanski noted that Pickett is actively involved in the process, but is not yet ready for team drills.
Competition for the starting quarterback position is increasing. In addition to Pickett, on the roster are Joe Flacco, Dillion Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders, who is showing good results in training. According to the training camp data, Sanders currently has a 71% completion rate, throwing six touchdowns without interceptions.
The Browns held three joint practices with the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte. Stefanski has not clarified whether Pickett will be fully ready for these practices. The first preseason match will take place on September 8 against the Panthers, and the results of this match may influence the final decision on the starting quarterback.
The process of selecting the starting quarterback for the Browns remains open, and considering the previous seasons, the team is looking for stability in this position, having changed 40 quarterbacks since 1999.
