Athlete Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested at the airport
- Sha'Carri Richardson was detained at Seattle airport for allegedly domestic violence.
- The athlete was a national champion after the arrest, but she has a spot at the world championships.
- Coolman, her coach, distanced himself from the status of the victim in the case.
Sha'Carri Richardson, the world champion in the 100 meters, was arrested on July 27 at Seattle-Tacoma airport. She was accused of domestic violence, including an attack on her coach, sprinter Christian Coolman. Richardson was detained by the police, but the next day she was released without any charges being filed.
After the arrest, on September 2, she announced her departure from the national championships in Eugene, Oregon, where she was set to compete in the 100 meters. She had appeared at the competitions, but after it became known about her arrest, she decided to withdraw from the event. Nevertheless, Richardson remained on the list of participants for the 200 meters, although her participation now seems unlikely.
Along with the police report, Richardson also noted the attack on Coolman, pushing him to the wall and removing his equipment, possibly headphones. The police noted that Coolman did not wish to continue the case and distanced himself from the status of the victim.
Richardson, who won gold at the world championships in Budapest in 2023, has a guaranteed spot at the world championships in September in Tokyo, as she is a reigning champion.
