India strengthens its lead in the second test series against England
- India scored 189 for 3 in the second innings of the fifth test.
- Aakash Deep became the best player with 66 runs.
- Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 85 runs and maintained stability.
London (AP) — Indian players, including night watchman Aakash Deep and Yashasvi Jaiswal, continued their successful performance, increasing their lead over England to 166 runs by lunchtime on the third day of the fifth test at the Oval.
Deep achieved his best career result, scoring 66 runs, while Jaiswal, who changed his role to a more defensive one, increased his score from 51 to 85. In the second innings, India secured 189 for 3.
The early session was practically ideal for India. After two days of unfavorable conditions, this time the weather was sunny, while the English attack, which deprived Kris Vokes of the ball, could not dominate the level of the pitch.
Deep, who started the day with 4 runs, surpassed his previous record by 31 runs, adding 11 additional runs through boundaries. His play became possible due to the inability of the English pacers, who could not trouble him.
From the moment Deep reached 50 runs, India felt a noticeable lead. His performance ended just before lunch when he was dismissed by Jamie Overton, who returned to the game after a three-day break.
Jaiswal, meanwhile, maintained a stable score, allowing India to strengthen its position. During lunch, Jaiswal had 85 runs, while captain Shubman Gill had 11 runs. India looked confident, ready to continue the game after lunch.
