West Ham United has signed a deal for free agent Callum Wilson after his departure from Newcastle.
Wilson underwent a medical examination and signed a short-term contract with the club from East London, which includes a significant portion of bonuses.
The 33-year-old footballer, who has nine caps for the England national team, left Newcastle after the club decided not to extend his contract on June 30, as the club chose not to continue the agreement. The parties held negotiations regarding a new contract, but were unable to reach an agreement.
Wilson joined Newcastle from Bournemouth in the summer of 2020 and scored 49 goals in 130 matches for the club. In the 2022-23 season, he achieved his career maximum, scoring 18 goals in the Premier League, but his last two seasons were plagued by injuries.
Wilson missed the first 15 matches of the season due to injury sustained in July. He appeared on the field in four matches of the Premier League, first receiving an injury at the beginning of August, which sidelined him for almost two months. In the end, he finished the season with only one goal in 22 matches across all competitions.
West Ham has lost its record goalscorer Michail Antonio, who left the club as a free agent in June, leaving a vacancy for the central forward position in Graham Potter's squad.
