Oleksandr Usyk Did Not Engage in Negotiations with Joseph Parker
- Usyk did not hold negotiations with Parker regarding the title fight
- Parker's promoter stated about the absence of contact with Usyk
- The rematch with Parker may elevate Usyk's status in the boxing community
This is reported by Sky Sports, Marca.
The team of Joseph Parker reported that Oleksandr Usyk has not conducted any negotiations regarding the mandatory title fight for the WBO title.
Usyk, who is the undisputed champion of the world in the heavyweight division after defeating Daniel Dubois last month, received a notice to enter into an agreement with Parker for a period of 30 days starting from July 24, otherwise the WBO will hold an auction.
However, Parker's promoter, David Higgins, confirmed that negotiations with Usyk have not yet begun. Usyk could lose his WBO title if he fails to fulfill this requirement.
"The last time I spoke with Frank Warren, who promotes Parker in the UK, there were no contacts. So they told me a few days ago," Higgins noted.
Higgins expressed his opinion that Parker deserves a title fight. He stated that "Parker would rather fight Usyk and progress than obtain the title without a fight."
Currently, Parker, who is the interim WBO champion, could become the new champion if Usyk decides not to fight him. Usyk is also linked to a potential bout with Tyson Fury.
James MacKenzie, a former three-time world champion, raised doubts about whether Usyk is indeed one of the best boxers of all time, following his recent achievements.
If Usyk decides not to fulfill the WBO's requirement, he may relinquish his title, but a rematch with Parker could elevate his status in the boxing community.
