Analysis of the situation around Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region

Russian troops are intensifying efforts to encircle Pokrovsk, a key logistics hub for Ukrainian forces in the Donetsk region. According to information from the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom, during the past week, Russian forces have made some advances to the northeast from Pokrovsk.

According to a report from British intelligence, Russian units are trying to bypass and redirect logistics routes, proceeding further west along the N-32 road, including to the town of Rodynske. This town is part of the main supply route to Pokrovsk.

Russian troops have also seized territory to the south from the road, advancing in the Myrnohrad area. Open sources report that in July, Russian diverse reconnaissance groups attempted to infiltrate the southern part of Pokrovsk, but Ukrainian forces conducted operations to clear the area.

Pokrovsk has become a priority objective for Russia following the capture of Avdiivka in July 2024. Ukrainian defenders report that diverse enemy groups are being reduced as they reach the city. According to ISW analysts, Ukrainian forces recently conducted successful operations in the northern part of Lysychansk towards Pokrovsk. This remains the most active sector along the entire front line, where over the last 24 hours, Ukrainian defenders repelled 66 attacks in the direction of Pokrovsk.
