In Pacifica, California, the annual world surfing championship for dogs is being held, with around 15-20 dogs participating. Among the competitors is Charlie, a yellow Labrador who loves surfing and can even paddle out to the water by himself. This event attracts thousands of spectators at Pacifica State Beach.
Dogs compete in various categories, including competitions on a single board and in pairs with humans. Judges evaluate the duration of the dog's stay on the board, their balance, and the execution of tricks on the waves.
Charlie, who is 10 years old, will be competing in the large dog category. Alongside him are other dogs, including Rosie, another yellow Labrador who is also actively engaged in surfing. Her owner, Steve Druttar, notes that shared activities strengthen the bond between him and the dog.
Winners receive medals and recognition. Competitions help dogs feel successful and happy, which is evident from their behavior after surfing.
