Cambodia announced its intention to nominate U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. This information was confirmed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, Sun Chanthol. He stated that Trump deserves this honor for establishing peace after the recent conflict with Thailand.

The conflict between Cambodia and Thailand flared up on July 24, 2025, over disputed territory. For five days, the fighting resulted in the deaths of at least 43 people, and nearly 300,000 people were forced to evacuate their homes. Trump reportedly suggested that he would break the deadlock in negotiations, which he announced at the ceasefire agreement on July 28 in Kuala Lumpur.

After the announcement of the ceasefire, the press secretary of the White House, Karine Jean-Pierre, stated that Trump played a decisive role in achieving peace. The Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia also praised Trump for lowering tariffs on imported goods from Cambodia.

This is not the first nomination of Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Earlier, Pakistan and Israel also expressed a desire to support his candidacy for his role in resolving conflicts.
