WNBA players expressed their outrage after two matches were interrupted due to sex-plays being performed on the court. The first incident occurred on July 30 during a game between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream, while the second – on August 2 during a meeting with the Chicago Sky.
In the game that took place in Chicago, a brightly-colored player fell on the court, and the game was stopped while the referee attended to her. Elizabeth Williams, the center of the Sky team, called it "very disrespectful" and added that "this is really unacceptable." She called out those who do it, "kids."
Earlier this week, on July 30, during the game between the Valkyries and the Dream, the match was also stopped, and officials together with the arena personnel chose to stop the game on the court.
Players like Sophie Canning from the Indiana Fever and Isabelle Harrison from the New York Liberty also expressed their disapproval, emphasizing that this is unacceptable and not funny. Harrison asked why the arena officials do not react to similar incidents.
Additionally, Angel Reese, who missed the game due to injury, commented on social media, trying to raise awareness, but her comments were received without any humor. Now the ban on sex-plays during Valkyries matches will be tightened, as officials expect a possibility of a repeat of a similar incident.
