Explosives Found During Arrest of Man in Tennessee

On Friday, August 2, 2025, law enforcement in Tennessee conducted the arrest of 54-year-old Kevin O'Neil, who had active warrants for threatening to murder public servants and law enforcement. During the execution of the arrest at his home in Old Fort, approximately 70 kilometers east of Chattanooga, 14 homemade explosive devices were discovered.
The operation began when detectives and sheriff's deputies arrived at the address to detain the suspect. During the detention, they noticed a house in disarray, where O'Neil had been. Law enforcement evacuated the building, and later specialists with explosive devices, along with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, identified all 14 devices.
O'Neil was charged with 11 counts of attempted murder of a first responder, 14 counts of possession of prohibited explosives, and one count of possession of explosive materials. Currently, he is being held in custody around Polk County, where no bail has been set.
According to information from the sheriff's department, none of the explosive devices detonated. However, the nature of the threats remains unclear.
