Smithsonian Museum to Provide Information on Trump Impeachment
- Trump will again be featured in an exhibition about impeachment
- The Smithsonian Museum prohibits political pressure on the release of information
- The exhibition has not been updated since 2008
Washington (AP) — The Smithsonian National Museum of American History announced that in the coming weeks it will once again include information about the impeachment of President Donald Trump in an exhibition dedicated to presidential impeachments. The release of the placards, which began two impeachment proceedings against Trump, has prompted concerns about the potential influence of the Biden administration on the museum.
In a statement, the museum noted that the decision to release the placards was not politically motivated, but related to the conditions of the placards themselves. "The placards, which were previously temporary additions to the 25-year exhibition, did not meet the museum's standards for external appearance, arrangement, chronology, and overall presentation," the statement said.
The exhibition "Impeachment" will be updated to reflect all impeachments in the history of the country. The placards about Trump's impeachments were added in 2021, but in July 2025 they were removed from the exhibition. The exhibition has not been updated since 2008, while the placard about Trump remained until recently.
Trump became the first U.S. president to be impeached twice: in 2019 for a call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding the investigation of Joe Biden, and in 2021 for "incitement to insurrection" during the Capitol riot on January 6.
The statement from the Smithsonian Museum confirms that they did not receive any indications from the Trump administration regarding the removal of content from the exhibition. However, critics, including Senator Chuck Schumer, accused Trump of attempting to rewrite history and control the museum.
Trump also expressed the need for a reexamination of the Smithsonian Institute, accusing it of being in the influence of "leftist, racially oriented ideology."
