  • She completed the distance in 48.90 seconds in Eugene.
  • McLaughlin-Levrone is preparing for the World Championships in Tokyo.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has won her second title in the USA at a distance of 400 meters, completing the distance in 48.90 seconds at the USA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on August 2, 2025. This victory secured her a spot at the World Championships, which will take place in Tokyo this summer.

McLaughlin-Levrone, a four-time Olympic champion and world record holder in the hurdles, has focused this season on the 400-meter race. She outpaced Dalilah Muhammad by 0.31 seconds, improving her record to 6-0 in finals at 400 meters. In 2023, she also won the national title but missed the world championship due to injury.

This victory marked the third for the 25-year-old sprinter, during which she completed the distance in under 49 seconds. Although this was her best result of the season, she was unable to break her personal record (48.74) and the American record (48.70), set by Sanya Richards-Ross in 2006.

McLaughlin-Levrone stated that it is important for her to continue to evolve. "This type of sport teaches me patience," she said. She also confirmed that she does not plan to compete in the hurdles at the World Championships in Tokyo, where she is a world record holder and double Olympic champion.

In the finals, the second qualifier was Dalilah Muhammad with a result of 49.59 seconds, and the third was Allyson Felix with 49.91 seconds. McLaughlin-Levrone emphasized that her preparation for the 400 meters began even before the classic Prefontaine meet, where she set a previous best of 49.43 seconds.
