As of September 6, 2025, Ukrainian forces continue to maintain their presence in the Glushkovsky district of the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. This has become a possible prerequisite for the successful Kursk operation that began on September 6, 2024. It was the first case where a full-scale war was transferred to the enemy's territory.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that throughout the year, Ukrainian forces conducted active operations in the Kursk and Belgorod regions, demonstrating their ability to adequately respond to Russian attacks.
The commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrsky, reported that during the Kursk operation, Ukrainian forces controlled up to 1,300 square kilometers of territory, demoralizing the Russian personnel. This allowed Ukraine not only to defend itself but also to deliver pinpoint strikes against the enemy.
The operation also resulted in significant losses for Russian forces, including the destruction of over 7,200 units of military equipment, as well as the elimination of over a thousand Russian servicemen who became part of the exchange of prisoners. According to Syrsky, Ukrainian forces continue to maintain the frontline and protect the independence of the country.
