On August 6, 2025, Naomi Osaka reached the final of the Canadian Open, defeating Ukrainian Elena Svitolina with a score of 6-2, 6-2. This final became the first for Osaka in her career at this tournament.
The Japanese tennis player, a four-time tournament winner of the Grand Slam, is now looking to win her first title since 2021. In the final, she will face Clara Tauson, who won her semifinal match against sixth seed Madison Keys with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
Tauson, a 22-year-old tennis player from Denmark, dedicated her victory to her grandfather, who passed away two days before her match. She shared that she wanted to show her best game for him. To this end, she defeated Elena Svitolina in the tournament, which boosted her in the world rankings.
Osaka, who returned to professional tennis after a 15-month hiatus, started feeling satisfied with her game and is ready for her match against Tauson. This will be a rematch, as they both played each other at the beginning of the year in Oakland, where Osaka was forced to retire due to injury.
In the other semifinal, Canadian Victoria Mboko meets ninth seed Elena Rybakina.
