Son Heung-min, the captain of Tottenham, has completed his transfer to Los Angeles FC, signing a contract with Major League Soccer (MLS). This transfer comes after a decade-long career at Tottenham, where he scored 173 goals in 454 matches.
The 33-year-old South Korean forward announced his intention to leave Tottenham on Saturday, before he was set to play in a friendly match against Newcastle. After an emotional farewell, he arrived in Los Angeles on Tuesday and witnessed his new team LAFC win against Tigres (2-1) at BMO Stadium.
An official press conference, at which Son will be introduced, will take place in the afternoon at 14:00 local time. According to the information, Los Angeles FC paid over 20 million pounds sterling for the transfer, which could set a record for MLS.
Son remains at Tottenham until the club tries to win its first European trophy in a decade, having reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in the spring. He decided that it was time for a "new challenge" in his career.
With his entry to LAFC, Son reunites with his former teammate from Tottenham, Hugo Lloris, who still plays for the club. Los Angeles is home to the largest ethnic Korean community outside of Korea, making this place ideal for his career.
