In Oregon, a suspect is charged with the murder of four women

Charged with the murders of four women Jesse Lee Calhoun has received a new indictment. He is accused of murdering 22-year-old Kristen Smitt in November 2022, according to the words of the prosecutor of Multnomah County, Nathan Vaskes during a pre-conference.

The body of Smitt was found in the forest in Portland after she went missing in the fall of 2022. This new indictment adds another point to the accusations in the second degree of murder and abuse of the body in the case of Calhoun.

Previously, Calhoun was charged with the murders of Charity Perry (24 years old), Bridget Webster (31 years old), and Joanny Spiks (32 years old). He does not admit his guilt regarding the three points of accusations in the second degree of murder and abuse of the body.

Calhoun is currently held under guard in Inverness Jail in Multnomah County, and his trial will be in 2027. Calhoun's attorney, Cameron Taylor, declined to comment.

The mother of Kristen Smitt, Melissa Smitt, expressed hope for justice during the pre-conference, stating that she is grateful to everyone who has not given up on the case.

The bodies of Perry, Webster, and Spiks were found over several months in forests, fields, and under bridges within approximately 160 kilometers from Portland, which raised concerns that a serial killer may be targeting young women in this region.

Calhoun is also a person of interest in the death of Ashley Real, a 22-year-old woman from Portland, whose body was found in the forest in May 2023.
