Trump Calls on India and China to Stop Purchasing Russian Oil
- Trump demands that India and China stop purchasing Russian oil.
- India imports 1.75 million barrels of Russian oil per day.
- Russia received $12.6 billion from oil sales in June 2025.
The President of the USA Donald Trump demands that India and China cease purchasing Russian oil, which, in his opinion, supports the financing of the Kremlin's war against Ukraine. Trump is increasing pressure on Putin, aiming to achieve a ceasefire, yet India and China continue to import Russian oil at a lower price.
According to data, China, India, and Turkey have become the largest purchasers of Russian oil since the European Union imposed an embargo on most Russian oil starting January 2023. India imports nearly 1.75 million barrels per day, which accounts for 36% of its total oil consumption.
Despite pressure from the USA, India refuses to stop purchasing Russian oil. The Indian government emphasizes that their actions are economically justified, especially since the country receives Russian oil at a reduced price. Trump also promised to significantly increase tariffs on Indian goods due to the continued import of Russian oil.
Economic data shows that Russia received $12.6 billion from oil sales in June 2025, despite the sanctions. India and China form the main part of Russia's revenues from oil exports, which mitigates international efforts to reduce dependence on Russian energy sources.
