NATO is purchasing weapons for Ukraine for 500 million dollars

Sweden, Norway, and Denmark have announced the allocation of nearly 500 million euros (434 million pounds sterling) for the purchase of military equipment from the USA to support Ukraine. This step is part of a new NATO initiative aimed at supplying weapons to Kyiv.

The Dutch Minister of Defence, Ruben Beekelmans, stated that the country has also allocated 500 million euros for this initiative, which has been named "Priority List of Ukraine's Needs" (PURL). Norway plans to allocate nearly 1.5 billion Norwegian kroner (109 million pounds), while Denmark is set to provide nearly 90 million dollars.

Sweden is contributing 275 million dollars for the procurement of Patriot systems and other equipment for air defense, as well as artillery pieces for combating tanks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked these countries for their support, noting that this creates a new foundation for long-term security in Europe. He emphasized the importance of obtaining Patriot systems and other equipment for protection against Russian attacks.

NATO announced that it coordinates a new initiative, which is financed by European alliance members and Canada. The aid packages will be formulated according to Ukraine's needs, including air defense, artillery pieces, and other critical equipment.

The Patriot system is considered one of the most advanced in the US arsenal and is capable of intercepting aircraft and tactical ballistic missiles.

Meanwhile, the USA has approved a new military aid package for Ukraine totaling 203.5 million dollars, which will be used for the repair and transportation of military equipment, including artillery howitzers M777.

NATO plans to provide regular supplies of weapons to Ukraine, with the largest deliveries expected this month, and this aid package will be prepared quickly and on a regular basis.
