Trump has selected four candidates for the position of head of the Federal Reserve

  • Trump has withdrawn from the candidacy of Scott Bessenet.
  • Among the candidates for the position of head of the Federal Reserve are Kevin Warsh and Kevin Hassett.
  • The former governor Kuggler created a vacancy in the Federal Reserve Board.

President of the United States Donald Trump announced four potential candidates for the position of head of the Federal Reserve (Fed) after he withdrew from the candidacy of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessenet. In his interview with CNBC, Trump noted that Bessenet decided to remain in his current position, stating that "I love Scott, but he wants to stay where he is."

Among the candidates that Trump is considering is former member of the Fed Board Kevin Warsh and director of the National Economic Council Kevin Hassett. Trump also confirmed that he may consider the possibility of filling the vacant position on the Fed board after the resignation of governor Adrian D. Kugler, who resigned on Friday.

Term limits for the position of head end in June 2026, and he does not plan to remain in this position any longer. However, one of Trump's critics regarding Fed policy has caused a significant drop in investor confidence regarding the independence of the central bank. Trump stated that he intends to make a decision in the nearest time.

According to legislation and precedent of the Supreme Court of the United States, the president can appoint the head of the Fed only "for reasons" that are usually interpreted as evidence of corruption or improper conduct.
