- Alisha Pinero attempted to smuggle 59 pounds of marijuana
- The arrest took place at Washington Dulles International Airport
- The street value of the marijuana could reach $240,000
A woman from Las Vegas, Alisha Ann Pinero, was arrested for attempting to smuggle 59 pounds of marijuana through Washington Dulles International Airport, located in Virginia. According to customs data, the marijuana had a street value of approximately $240,000.
Pinero was attempting to board a flight to Frankfurt, Germany, when customs officials discovered in her luggage several vacuum-sealed packages containing suspected marijuana. After inspection, it was revealed that the packages contained marijuana.
The woman was arrested upon exiting the plane as she was attempting to pass through customs. She was charged with transporting a controlled substance and possession with the intent to distribute, which are criminal offenses. Customs officials noted that marijuana trafficking across borders is becoming increasingly widespread, particularly as criminal groups seek to obtain profits in Europe.
Notably, despite the legalization of marijuana in some U.S. states, its transport across state lines remains illegal under federal law.
