Disney Plus and Hulu are merging and changing their subscriber reporting
- Disney will stop reporting the number of subscribers for its streaming services.
- Hulu will merge with Disney Plus next year.
- Disney Plus and Hulu have a combined total of 183 million subscribers.
This is reported by The Verge, CNET.
Disney announced that it will no longer report the number of subscribers for its streaming services in quarterly financial reports. This decision was made after the company announced an addition of 2.6 million new subscribers to Disney Plus and Hulu, bringing the total to 183 million.
This information was shared by Disney's CEO Bob Iger and CFO Christine McCarthy in comments on quarterly financial results. They stated that the data on paid subscribers has become "less significant for assessing the effectiveness of our business." Therefore, starting from the next quarter, beginning with Q4 2025, Disney will stop reporting the number of subscribers for ESPN Plus, and after three months – for Disney Plus and Hulu.
Disney also announced plans to merge Hulu with Disney Plus next year. Hulu will become available at the international level, and users who have bundled services will be able to access Hulu content through the Disney Plus add-on. This merger will allow for easier usage and to introduce new packages for subscribers.
For the last quarter, which ended in June 2025, Disney reported a 6% increase in revenue from streaming video compared to the previous year, totaling $346 million. Disney Plus and Hulu together have 183 million subscribers, of which 128 million are on Disney Plus. ESPN Plus has 24.1 million subscribers, with no increase over the last three months.
