The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is addressing problems of citizens at the border

  • 96 Ukrainians remain at the border with Georgia
  • The deportation of Ukrainians from Russia is leading to a humanitarian crisis
  • Five Ukrainians reported starvation at the control point

About this reports RBC Ukraine, Ukrayinska Pravda.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is actively working with Georgia and Moldova to find a quick solution for the transit of Ukrainians who have been stuck at the borders of Russia and Georgia through the territory of Moldova. Since mid-June 2025, Russia has significantly intensified the deportation of Ukrainian citizens across the border with Georgia, which has led to a humanitarian crisis at the control point of Daryal.

Currently, there are 96 Ukrainians remaining in the buffer zone at the control point of Daryal. Thanks to the efforts of the MFA of Ukraine, since June they have managed to organize the departure of 44 Ukrainian citizens from this area.

It is noted that earlier Andriy Sybiha, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, urged Russia to deport Ukrainians directly to Ukraine, and not through Georgia or Moldova. This is ignored by the Russian side, which indicates Moscow's intention to create a humanitarian crisis.

On August 5, the Ukrainian embassy in Georgia received reports from five Ukrainians who reported starvation, demanding to allow them to cross the border of Georgia. Other citizens also joined this protest.

The MFA of Ukraine stated that the majority of deported individuals are people who were previously attracted to criminal liability. Among them are those who were mobilized in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and were primarily transferred to Russia.

The Ukrainian embassy in Georgia is actively interacting with the Georgian side, involving the International Committee of the Red Cross, UNHCR, and other organizations for resolving humanitarian aspects of the situation.

The humanitarian crisis at the border continues, and the Ukrainian side is looking for ways to quickly resolve the transit problems of its citizens.
