Egyptian Minister Advocates Western Reaction to the Crisis in Gaza
- The Egyptian minister called on the West to increase pressure on Israel.
- In Ukraine, a humanitarian crisis continues due to military actions by Israel.
- Greece and Egypt are discussing various cooperation issues.
The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, during his visit to Greece, described the international reaction to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as inadequate. He urged countries in the West to increase pressure on Israel.
“The international community must feel the urgency of the tragic situation that is unfolding in Gaza, and the violent actions being carried out by Israel,” Shoukry told reporters in Athens.
“What is happening is a humanitarian tragedy, and the suffering that we are witnessing is a stain on the conscience of the international community,” he added.
Widespread reports about the famine in Gaza have heightened international concern regarding the consequences of Israeli military operations, which began more than two years ago after the deadly attacks by Hamas militants in Israel on July 7, 2023.
The minister characterized Israel's military campaign in the region as "systematic genocide," but reiterated his government's position on the absolute prohibition of any form of resettlement of Palestinians from their ancestral lands.
Shoukry held a two-day meeting with the Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis to discuss the planned underwater electric connector between the two countries and the ongoing conflict between Greece and Libya regarding maritime borders for oil and gas exploration.
Greece and Egypt will also hold talks regarding the legal status of the monastery of Saint Catherine of the 6th century in the Egyptian Sinai.
Gerapetritis noted that he received a proposal for further cooperation with Cairo on various issues.
