The Government of Lebanon Plans to Restrict Hezbollah's Armament
- Hezbollah criticizes the Lebanese government's plan to disarm the group.
- The government instructs the army to prepare a plan for controlling the armament.
- The government's decision has provoked pressure from the USA.
On Wednesday, September 6, 2025, Hezbollah sharply criticized the Lebanese government's decision to begin the process aimed at disarming the group this year. They believe that this decision serves the interests of neighboring Israel.
According to Hezbollah's statement, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam's government instructed the army to prepare a plan that would only allow state institutions to maintain the right to arm until the end of the year. Hezbollah asserts that this step is "a serious crime," as it deprives Lebanon of the ability to resist Israel.
Hezbollah also stated that it is ready for dialogue regarding its armament, but only after Israel withdraws its military from the five territories it controls in southern Lebanon. They emphasized that they will not discuss their disarmament while Israel continues its ongoing strikes, which kill or injure hundreds of people, mostly members of Hezbollah.
The Lebanese government, under US pressure, has adopted a decision regarding the disarmament of Hezbollah, which may lead to an escalation of tensions in the region, where Hezbollah has significant support among Shiites.
This decision marks the first time that the Lebanese government officially discusses the disarmament of Hezbollah after the war with Israel, which began on July 7, 2023. After the war, which claimed the lives of over 4,000 people, Hezbollah announced that it would withdraw from disarmament upon fulfilling conditions related to Israel.
Hezbollah also reiterated that it would refuse to recognize the government's decision, which, in their view, undermines Lebanon's security in the context of ongoing aggression from Israel.
