Tottenham Hotspur confirmed that Son Heung-min has transferred to MLS club Los Angeles FC on a permanent basis.
According to information from BBC Sport, LAFC paid a record sum of 26 million dollars (19.5 million pounds sterling) for MLS.
The forward spoke at a press conference on Saturday, stating that he remains with Tottenham after 10 years at the club.
The 33-year-old player was present at the LAFC match against Mexican club Tigres UANL in the Cup League, winning 2-1 in the semifinals.
The amount paid to Tottenham by the South Korean exceeds the previous MLS record of 16.5 million pounds, paid by Atlanta United for Emmanuel Lattes Lata from Midlsbro last summer.
Son's contract with Tottenham was set to expire in the summer of 2026. His last match for Spurs was played in a friendly game against Newcastle in his hometown last Sunday, the day after he announced his intention to leave the Premier League club.
Throughout his decade-long stay in London, Son scored 173 goals and made 101 assists in 454 matches for the club across all competitions.
He became the new captain of Tottenham after Hugo Lloris's departure to MLS. Now Son and Lloris will play together again at LAFC.
LAFC is currently in sixth place in the Western Conference of MLS, but has fewer games played than two teams that are higher in the table.
