The actor Jussie Smollett is returning to Fox, six years after leaving the network following a highly publicized incident related to a fabricated hate crime. Smollett, who is 43 years old, will be a participant in the reality show Special Forces: World's Toughest Test, which premieres on February 25.
Previously, he starred in the musical drama Empire from 2015 to 2019. After he reported that two men attacked him, alleging racist and homophobic slurs, his character was written out of the final season of the show. Later, two men claimed that Smollett had staged the attack, which the actor has always denied.
The court found him guilty in five instances of violating public order in 2021. He received 150 days of incarceration, of which he served six days, while the rest of the term was granted conditionally. A 30-month probation term and compensation in the amount of $130,000 were also part of the sentence. In 2024, the Illinois Supreme Court overturned his sentence due to an agreement on non-precedent.
Smollett also participated in a documentary film on Netflix titled The Truth About Jussie Smollett?, which will be released on August 22. In Special Forces, he will be one of 18 celebrities who will undergo military training. Among the other participants are reality stars and former athletes.
