Training Observations of Commanders and Patriots

  • The training of Commanders and Patriots has become a testing ground for players.
  • Several skirmishes occurred between the teams during the training.
  • The Commanders team needs improvements in defense and attack.

FOXBORO, Massachusetts — The joint training of Washington Commanders and New England Patriots lasted two hours and served as a testing ground for players who are trying to make the roster, as well as for preseason players for rookie players.

The training included many drills 11 on 11 and work in the red zone. However, the situation became tense, and several minor skirmishes occurred between the teams. Patriots player trainer Mike Vrabel even received a penalty in the result of one of these skirmishes.

Details of the Skirmishes

Both skirmishes occurred during the training under the watch of the league officials. During one of them, Patriots players, defender Commanders Marsha Latimer was involved in a fight, but quickly everything calmed down. "This is football. This is what it is," commented Latimer.

In the next scrimmage, quarterback Patriots Drake May received a touchdown, but after that, another skirmish arose, in which Vrabel was trying to stop the players.

State of the Commanders Team

Washington hopes that their revamped defense will be able to stop the Patriots attack. The team signed new players, such as Javan Kinlaw and Eddie Goldman, to strengthen the line. Defender Daron Payne noted that he feels good and ready for the season.

However, the Patriots attack needs improvements. Without Terry McLaurin and Noa Brown, who missed the training through injury, the team felt a lack of options in receptions. Player Jaycob Brooks made several impressive receptions, but overall, the team did not demonstrate stability in the transfers.

State of Injured Players

McLaurin and quarterback Sem Kozmi did not participate with the team due to injury. Also, several other players, including backup quarterback Marcus Merito, missed training due to unspecified injuries. Trainer Dan Kuehn noted that the injury list of their players is low.

Plan for Friday

On Friday, Commanders will hold their first preseason game, where it is expected that quarterbacks Josh Johnson and Sem Hartman will play a key role, since May and rookie players will not take part in the event.

Stars at Training

Among the spectators of the training were stars, such as Jason Tatum from Boston Celtics and rock-star John Bon Jovi. Tatum mingled with the players, while Bon Jovi supported them in unforeseen situations.
