LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shohei Ohtani reached his 1000th hit, hitting a home run with two runners on base in a game against the St. Louis Cardinals. This round brought the team to a score of 2-1. Ohtani also pitched all eight innings, which became his best performance of the season with four innings.
This was his eighth appearance on the mound this season, after he missed the entire 2024 season due to surgery on his ligament. In the match, he threw 54 pitches, 37 of which were strikes, and only walked one batter. Ohtani finished the game, striking out three batters in the fourth inning.
Ohtani recorded his 39th home run, which traveled 440 feet to center field. Before this, he reached base after hitting the first base of the batter. In the first two innings, Ohtani did not allow any runner.
The "Dodgers" manager Dave Roberts stated that Ohtani will not pitch more than five innings in the most important games, so as not to overexert him.
Ohtani also was involved in an incident during the training, when his ball hit the catcher, but fortunately, he was not injured.
