Zelensky urged not to trust Russian promises
- Zelensky stated the possibility of a truce with Russia.
- Three people were killed in Nikopol as a result of shelling.
- Trust in Zelensky has decreased to 58% following the protests.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia, apparently, has become "more inclined to a truce" after the visit of American envoy Steven Vitec to Moscow. He emphasized that it is important not to allow Russia to deceive Ukraine and the USA in the details.
Regardless of these discussions, sanctions aimed at Russian oil are expected on Friday. U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio noted that there are still certain "prerequisites" for achieving peace, including Russia's territorial pretensions.
Zelensky also mentioned that after Vitec's negotiations with Putin, Russia became more open to possible peace proposals. However, no specific proposals have yet been presented.
At the same time, as a result of the Russian artillery shelling in Nikopol, three people were killed, including one employee of emergency services, and four others were injured. This happened at a time when Russia launched an attack on a gas facility in the Odessa region, under conditions where gas reserves in Ukraine reached their lowest level in 12 years.
In addition, in the USA, a soldier was arrested who attempted to transfer secret information about American tanks to a Russian intelligence officer in exchange for Russian citizenship. This incident has sparked concern regarding security in the context of the war.
In light of these events, trust in Zelensky among Ukrainians has decreased to 58% after protests against attempts to limit the powers of anti-corruption agencies. In contrast, his support reached 74%.
Ukraine has also appointed a new head of the department for investigating economic crimes, which has become part of the efforts to combat corruption. This step has received praise from the EU as an important reform.
