Washington — The Department of Homeland Security has announced that it is lifting age restrictions for new candidates seeking employment at the ICE agency, which is responsible for immigration control and deportation. This decision has become possible due to significant funding approved by Congress.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristen Neuschwander noted that now individuals as young as 18 years old can apply, while the upper age limit for candidates has been removed. "We want more patriots to be able to join ICE," Neuschwander said in an interview.
ICE aims to hire 14,000 new employees, including deportation officers and investigators. This is part of an advertising campaign that includes extensive promotions on platforms such as YouTube and HBO to reach a younger audience, including Generation Z representatives.
The agency also offers attractive bonuses for new recruits, including up to $50,000 for signing a contract and the possibility of student loan forgiveness.
According to data, in July, the number of asylum-seeking immigrants decreased by 20% due to court cases and protests. This has led to a noticeable decline among ICE employees, who feel that their work has become less effective.
