Toronto — Eleventh-seed Karen Khachanov from Russia defeated former first seed Alexander Zverev from Germany with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4) on Wednesday evening, reaching the final of the National Bank Open tournament.

29-year-old Khachanov, a seven-time champion on the ATP Tour, will face the winner of the semifinals, where the second seed Taylor Fritz and the fourth seed Ben Shelton are competing.

Zverev, the 2017 champion with 24 titles on tour, is ranked third in the world ranking. He became the first seed, as the current world number one, Carlos Alcaraz, and the second seed, Novak Djokovic, skipped this tournament on hard courts.
