Financial markets in Asia rise due to positive news about Apple

  • Asian markets rose due to the news about Apple
  • Trump announced new tariffs on imports from India
  • Oil prices fell, closing the day at lower levels

The financial markets in Asia primarily increased after Apple’s shares rose by 5.1% in connection with an overall increase in investment in the USA by $100 billion over the next four years. The Japanese Nikkei 225 index rose by 0.6%, reaching 41,025.76. The Hong Kong Hang Seng also rose by 0.6%, to 25,057.84, while the Shanghai composite index increased by 0.1% to 3,637.96.

On the backdrop of increased export tariffs from the USA on goods from China, the country reported an increase in exports in July, due to the activity of businesses, which paused in the tariff war between the USA and China. The South Korean Kospi rose by 0.6%, to 3,217.67, while the Australian S&P/ASX 200 dropped by 0.2%, to 8,828.70.

In response to the new tariffs, US President Donald Trump announced an increase in tariffs on imports from India to 50%. He also imposed 100% tariffs on computer chips, except for investments in production in the USA, which allows some trading partners to utilize investments as leverage in negotiations. This led to an increase in shares of South Korean chip manufacturers, such as Samsung Electronics, which rose by 2.1%.

On Wall Street, stocks also rose, as the Nasdaq index increased by 1.21% to 21,169.42, while the S&P 500 rose by 0.73% to 6,345.06. Overall, markets are reacting to positive corporate news, regardless of the potential impact of tariff increases on the economy. However, expectations of a decrease in interest rates by the Federal Reserve system support stability in the markets.

Oil prices fell, closing the day at lower levels, as comments from Trump regarding progress in negotiations with Moscow elicited uncertainty regarding new sanctions. At the same time, US agencies demonstrate an increase in revenue, as investors await Trump’s decision on the new member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve.
