Trump's Meeting with Putin for Peace Talks
- The White House confirmed the initiative from Russia regarding the meeting
- Zelensky believes that Russia has become more inclined towards peace
- Trump described the negotiations as productive
This is reported by Ukrayinska Pravda, Meduza.
The White House stated that the initiative to hold a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin was sent from the Russian side. This information was announced by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
On August 6, Trump indicated that the meeting, which was held by special envoy of the U.S. Steve Vitkoff with Putin, was "productive." Jean-Pierre emphasized that Trump was open to meeting not only with Putin but also with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the possibility of a peace agreement.
Zelensky, in turn, expressed confidence that Russia has become "more inclined" to ceasefire following Vitkoff's visit to Moscow. He noted that pressure on Russia could yield results, but it is important that Russia does not get bogged down in the details of negotiations.
During the meeting in Moscow, which lasted nearly three hours, issues related to the war in Ukraine were discussed, but no statements were made after it.
Jerela reports that organizing a meeting between Trump and Putin next week will be complicated, but both sides are interested in continuing negotiations.
