Rubio emphasized the importance of territorial issues for ending the war

  • Territorial issues have significant importance for peace negotiations.
  • Steps from both sides are necessary for concluding an agreement.
  • Decisions on sanctions against Russia will involve the U.S. President.

This is reported by RBC Ukraine, Ukrayinska Pravda.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated in an interview with Fox News that territorial issues will be key to ending the war in Ukraine. He emphasized that achieving a temporary cessation of hostilities may be part of the process, especially since it is important to negotiate the details of a peace agreement during combat actions.

Rubio noted that both sides must be ready to make steps that will be unavoidable, taking into account the significant losses on both sides. "Every time you are going to conclude an agreement, necessary steps will be required from both the Russians and the Ukrainians," he said.

Rubio also mentioned the possibility of introducing additional sanctions against Russia after the end of the 10-day term established by President Trump to conclude the war. According to Rubio, the decision on sanctions may involve the U.S. President based on the progress of negotiations.

On August 6, Trump sent special envoy Steven Vitkoff to Moscow for a meeting with the Russian leadership, where they discussed the issue of the war in Ukraine. Trump expressed readiness to meet with Putin, which could help conclude the conflict.
