Frankfurt, Germany (AP) — The club "Eintracht Frankfurt" signed Japanese winger Ritsu Doan to strengthen the team after the sale of Hugo Ekitike. This is happening as part of the preparations for returning to the Champions League.
Doan signed a five-year contract with the club "Freiburg", where he became the top scorer with 10 goals, and the team finished in fifth place in the Bundesliga.
"I am very happy and grateful to be here," said Doan in a video message for Frankfurt fans. "I can't wait to play in front of the fans."
Frankfurt is returning to the Champions League this season after finishing third in the Bundesliga, but its attack will look new after the sale of Ekitike to "Liverpool" for 69 million pounds sterling (93.5 million dollars).
27-year-old Doan may become a partner of another newly signed player in the position of central forward, former "Mainz" striker Jonatan Burkardt.
Doan won the KNVB Cup with PSV Eindhoven in 2022 and played 57 matches for the Japan national team. Among his achievements is participation in all matches of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and qualifying for the upcoming World Cup, which will take place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Doan may debut for Frankfurt on August 17 in the German Cup match against the fifth division team "Energia". The first Bundesliga match of the season will take place in six days at home against "Werder".
